The well-preserved exterior of Santa Monica Historical Landmark #37 is a classic example of a certain Craftsman style associated with aeroplanes: The wide overhanging gables at alternating heights gives the impression that these roof planes are about to take flight but remain at the same time organically rooted to the site. This genre specifically suited California by abandoning the Victorian stateliness for relaxed, open floorplans and broad porches shaded by the hovering rooflines. The interior retains much of the original plan and fittings: An open living/dining room with a friendly hearth, kitchen and breakfast room, a sunroom and a study or third bedroom. A bedroom foyer leads to a second bedroom, bathroom and a master extended in the 80s to include a master bath and larger closets. A crow's nest office, most likely an original sleeping porch, provides an office or bedroom. A two-car garage shares the extra large lot and is accessed from the alley.
